Everthing, Everything Review

Brief Description (from the back of the book):

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

“Just because you can’t experience everything doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experience anything.”

Everything, Everything was a cute romance, had funny dialogue, and the format/illustrations made it even more fun and unique. I also thought this book did a fantastic job at balancing the lightheartedness with the more serious aspects. Personally, I could've done with a bit more resolution at the end--it felt a little rushed, and I would've liked to linger for a few more pages.

The ending of the book left me with conflicted emotions and the full impact of the story didn’t hit me until a few minutes later. I didn't really realize how much I related to Maddy until near the end. I'm usually not a fan of contemporary novels but this book was amazing and had some very important and inspiring quotes (even though it was kind of cheesy at times).

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic debut novel! Funny and sad and romantic all at once! I would definitely recommend this book, especially if you like cute and unique contemporary stories.

"Life is a gift. Don’t forget to live it."

I'd give this book 4/5 stars
